What To Do With a Dandelion Puff

12/22/19

I had so much fun working with that dandelion puff from Pixabay for this challenge. It was really difficult to pick just one to enter the contest. I finally settled on this darling Basset Hound, also from Pixabay.

After I cleaned up a few distracting hot spots, I extended the background to the left and top because he was tight to the frame in the original. I then made those layers into a smart object which I then took into the camera raw filter to bring out the details. I added some rim light around his head to separate him from the background. I used the day lion puff as an overlay, and masked it out over the dog. The divide blend mode looked best with the background, the opacity was lowered to around 70%. I added a hue/saturation layer and used the old style preset, before adding a vignette.

The second iteration started with a night sky image from Unsplash. This time I set the puff image to the overlay blend mode at 100% opacity, It needed just a little more pizazz, so I chose a turquoise color from the sky and filled in the centers of the puff with it. I used a layer mask to lower the opacity of the dots in the water reflection.

Take  care and stay well. Happy Holidays!
